Jay Ellis honors late ‘Euphoria’ actor Angus Cloud at Sundance
The late “Euphoria” actor Angus Cloud was remembered fondly at the premiere of his second-to-last movie, “Freaky Tales,” Thursday night at the Sundance Film Festival.
The actor, who played drug dealer Fezco on the first two seasons of the HBO drama series, died of an accidental overdose last July. He was 25.
His “Freaky Tales” co-star Jay Ellis took the stage of the Eccles Theater after the debut screening and recalled filming the finale fight scene with him.
“My first day, as we went to go do the work at the house, I got to meet Pedro [Pascal], I got to meet Ben Mendelsohn and I got to meet Angus Cloud,” the actor said onstage, flanked by Pascal and Mendelsohn.
“Rest in peace to Angus,” added Ellis, who plays Golden State Warrior Sleepy Floyd. “He gave such a great performance.”
The 1980s nostalgia movie, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“Captain Marvel”), is also dedicated to Cloud, and includes the message “In loving memory of Angus Cloud” after the end credits.
In the episodic, somewhat supernatural flick, Cloud plays a thug henchman of a corrupt detective in 1987 Oakland, Calif.
His final film will be the horror movie “Abigail,” starring Dan Stevens and Kathryn Newton, which hits theaters on April 19.
After Cloud’s death last year, “Euphoria” co-star Zendaya posted a moving tribute on social media.
“Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor),” she wrote.
“I’m so grateful I got the chance to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm kind eyes and bright smile, or hear his infectious cackle of a laugh (I’m smiling now just thinking of it) I know people use this expression often when talking about folks they love…‘they could light up any room they entered’ but boy let me tell you, he was the best at it. I’d like to remember him that way. For all of the boundless light, love and joy he always managed to give us. I’ll cherish every moment.”
