Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer let forbidden crush ‘play out on TV’
What can they say — they were each other’s lobsters!
Jennifer Aniston reminded fans Thursday in a resurfaced clip that she and her “Friends” co-star David Schwimmer had crushes on each other while filming the hit ’90s sitcom.
Aniston’s confession, which she first shared with Kelly Ripa and then-co-host Ryan Seacrest on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” back in March, aired again this week on ABC.
“You and David in the early years had a crush on each other,” Ripa said to Aniston in the revisited moment.
“Yes, we did,” Aniston confirmed. “We just let it play out on TV.”
Seacrest then asked “The Morning Show” star if it was “weird” to kiss Schwimmer for the first time on-camera.
“Well, no. It was quite enjoyable, actually,” Aniston admitted.
Aniston and Schwimmer portrayed the on-again-off-again couple Rachel Green and Ross Geller from 1994 to 2004 on the hit NBC sitcom, though the age-old question of whether or not their characters were “on a break” remains a heated debate in pop culture.
The actors first admitted to their mutual interest in each other during the “Friends: The Reunion” special on Max in May 2021.
“The first season, I had a major crush on Jen,” Schwimmer revealed during the much-hyped unscripted celebration. “At some point, we were both crushing hard on each other — but it was like two ships passing [in the night] because one of us was always in a relationship.”
Therefore, Schwimmer swore he and Aniston “never crossed that boundary” and only acted on their chemistry on screen.
Aniston backed up Schwimmer’s confession, even dishing out details about their steamy on-set make-out sessions — and whether or not their co-stars were in on the long-simmering secret.
“I remember saying at one point to David, ‘It’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually kiss is … on national television!’ Sure enough, the first time we kissed was in that coffee shop,” Aniston said. “So we just channeled all of our adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel.”
“Friends” is available to stream on Max.
