‘Jeopardy!’ producer Sarah Foss asks fans to forget ‘horrible’ episode

It was a “Jeopardy!” episode to forget.

A broadcast of the popular game which aired on June 7 is under fire from producers and fans alike as all three contestants failed to answer a clue a whopping 23 times.

“In this game, this has to be a record, 23 triple stumpers, and it’s something we never like to see,” producer Sarah Foss said on the “Inside ‘Jeopardy!” podcast.

While no one is certain as to why there were a record number of clues left unanswered former champion Buzzy Cohen did give one possible reason.

“Not good, you know it’s the last game before lunch, maybe everyone’s a little sleepy or something, a little hungry, but that’s a tough stat to carry with you,” Cohen said.

Of all 23 triple stumpers, 7 happened in the first round while the last 16 occurred in “Double Jeopardy!”

The large number of triple stumpers, produced the lowest Coryat scores, a contestant’s score if wagering isn’t factored in.

In the June 7 episode, contestants Suresh Krishnan, Kristine Rembach, Collette Lee were triple stumped 23 times.

One of the clues that became a triple stumper featured Vice President Kamala Harris.

“This Californian is number two in line,” the clue read, according to J! Archive.

Hoping not to draw too much attention to the painful viewing fans saw the week prior, the producers brushed off the show as something minuscule before moving into the next segment of the podcast.

“Thankfully I’ve seen nothing go viral about it so it’s not gonna go viral, we’ve mentioned it briefly on the pod and we’ll forget it ever happened,” Foss concluded.

Many fans were not thrilled with the contestants’ performance during the now infamous match, with some calling it the worst episode ever.

“My God @Jeopardy how boring is tonights show. All three are clueless. Not much enjoyment watching Mayim answer everything.

“Wow, tonight was horrible. They need new writers,” another person wrote, blaming the clue makers instead of the contestants.

“This is one of the collectively worst showings on Jeopardy I’ve ever seen. Someone better pull this off,” a third user said.

Suresh Krishnan went on to win the episode, his second win of a 6-game streak that ended on Thursday with a Final Jeopardy! round that also featured a triple stumper.

Krishnan also went viral when he and his two challengers Joe Seibert and Laura Blyler Scanland, were a part of a triple stumper about the Lord’s Prayer.

In the June 13 episode, no contestant was able to figure out the clue “Matthew 6:9 says, ‘Our Father Which Art in Heaven’ this ‘be thy name,’” with Heathen being the correct word.
