Johannes Thingnes Boe survives errant shooting to claim 10km sprint gold at Biathlon World Championships
Johannes Thingnes Boe won his 14th world title with 10km sprint success at the World Championships in Oberhof on Saturday – despite some shaky shooting in the German fog.
The 29-year-old Norwegian secured his latest global crown by clocking 23:21.7, well clear of his older brother Tarjei Boe, who was nearly 15 seconds adrift in silver. Bronze went to Sturla Holm Laegreid.
That meant a Norway clean sweep and if that were not enough, Johannes Dale also finished in fourth for the Norwegians and Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen secured a sixth-placed finish.

There was also an impressive performance from Ukraine’s Dmytro Pidruchnyi, who finished fifth.
For Thingnes Boe it represents yet more success in the biathlon, a sport he has come to dominate in recent years. He has now got 26 medals at world championships since winning his first in 2015, and of those, the majority – 14 – are gold.
In 11 World Cup seasons, he has three overall titles and seven discipline titles, to go alongside his eight Olympic medals, five of which are gold.
In the 2021 Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka, he took two gold medals, with the most he has ever won three in 2020 and 2019 in Antholz-Anterselva and Ostersund respectively.
With the individual, pursuit, mass start and single mixed competitions all to come, there is a chance he could yet beat his record.
