Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic to share Jumbo-Visma leadership at 2023 Vuelta a Espana

Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic will share leadership responsibilities as Jumbo-Visma go for a clean sweep of Grand Tours in 2023 at the Vuelta a Espana.

Roglic won the Giro d’Italia earlier this year, which was followed up by Vingegaard defending his Tour de France title in July.

It was long rumoured that both would be on the start line for the Vuelta, and the team confirmed they would begin the race with protected status.

“Vingegaard and Roglic will start the race both as our leaders,” sports director Marc Reef said on the team’s website. “Roglic had an excellent preparation with a rest after the Giro and then altitude training followed by the Tour of Burgos.

“Vingegaard took a break after winning the Tour but then started training again, and the signals we got from him are also very good.

“The big goal is for one of them to reach Madrid in the red jersey.”

Roglic and Vingegaard will have strong support as they go in search of Grand Tour success, with the likes of Sepp Kuss and Wilco Kelderman in the eight-man squad.

“It is an ambitious goal that we dare to declare and for which we can field a very versatile and strong eight-man squad in Spain,” Reef said. “We are ready for anything with this team, and I look forward to starting in Barcelona with these riders.”

Jan Tratnik, Attila Valter, Dylan van Baarle and Robert Gesink make up the team for the 78th edition of the race that will get underway on August 26.
