Jonas Vingegaard crowned champion as Jasper Philipsen crushes rivals on Champs-Elysees at Tour de France

Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin–Deceuninck) chalked up his second win at the 2022 Tour de France on the Champs-Elysees as Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) wrapped up the overall victory.

Tradition dictates that the yellow jersey is not attacked on the final stage, but that did not stop Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) from dropping a cheeky attack from the gun before sharing a smile with Vingegaard and his fellow Jumbo star Wout van Aert.

The race then became the usual procession as Jumbo posed for the various celebration shots, sipping Champagne, before the sprint teams were belatedly set free in Paris.

Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and Pogacar dropped unexpected attacks with 6km remaining as they attempted to TT to the finish. They got a few bike lengths on the pack before being swallowed up as Thomas’ wounded team-mate Filippo Ganna took over.

But the usual suspects came to the fore in the finale, with Philipsen breaking clear on his own on the right of the road and racing away to an astonishingly convincing win.
