Jonas Vingegaard obliterates Tadej Pogacar in time trial to close on second Tour de France title

Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) took a gigantic stride towards defending his Tour de France crown with a stunning time trial victory on Stage 16 ahead of Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates).

The Dane arrived at the ITT with a 10-second lead in the general classification but lit the timing screens green to leave Combloux with a whopping 1’48” advantage.

“Jonas Vingegaard is on another planet” cried Rob Hatch on Eurosport commentary as the yellow jersey closed down on Pogacar in the home straight – despite starting two minutes later.

Pogacar opted to change bikes for the final climb, leaking more time on his rival, but in truth it made little difference as Vingegaard claimed a famous win.
