Joseph Quinn meets Metallica at Lollapalooza in Chicago

Iconic rock band Metallica has a new honorary member: “Stranger Things” actor Joseph Quinn.

Metallica and Quinn, the actor known for his role as Eddie Munson in “Stranger Things”, geeked out over each other and jammed to their now transgenerational song backstage at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago on Friday.

It was a meet-up for the ages.

Lead singer James Hetfield told the 29-year-old he’s been a fan of the hit Netflix show since its first season.

“My kids and I, it’s been a bonding experience for us,” Hetfield said.

Quinn’s character performed Metallica’s 1986 song “Master of Puppets” in one of the most memorable moments in the season four finale of “Stranger Things.”

“A story for the grandkids.” Quinn said after meeting the band.

Metallica acknowledged the show’s tribute and posted a video on social media, playing along with the track. Quinn revealed he consistently listened to the tune over the past two years and felt “very connected” to the band.

“Thank you so much for letting us use the track,” Quinn told the band.

“Thanks for doing it justice,” Hetfield responded.

After sitting down to chat, bassist Robert Trujillo invited Quinn to a backstage jam session.

Quinn, who has been playing guitar since he was a child, joked, “I’m a bit rusty, so I might need a lesson.”

The band had a parting gift for Quinn, gifting him a signed custom B.C. Rich guitar, nearly identical to the one Eddie Munson played in the show.

“It was amazing!” Quinn told Tudum. “Opportunities to play ‘Master of Puppets’ with the most iconic metal band of all time don’t come around very often. A story for the grandkids.”

Metallica later performed “Master of Puppets” live at Lollapalooza, with a montage from Eddie Munson’s thrashing scene playing on the display screens.
