Judd Trump bizarrely sinks white without touching another ball in Six Red World Championship match

Judd Trump bizarrely sent the cue ball straight into the pocket as he completely missed two reds in his Six Red World Championship match against Hossein Vafaei.

The 33-year-old former world No. 1 was trailing 3-2 in the match-up on Thursday at the tournament in Pathum Thani.

The event is played with six reds in the pack from the off, and was last played in 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic, and was won by Stephen Maguire.

Four years later the action was back and Judd Trump, currently world No. 23, was in action against his 28-year-old opponent, currently ranked one place above him at No. 22.

Despite the obvious quality that Trump boasts, he nevertheless committed a schoolboy error with a wayward stroke.

In the best of 11, Trump was 19-0 up and looking to go level, when he was looking to sink a red. He had three balls remaining on the table, all around the pink spot, but commentator Philip Studd thought that there was no plant on, nor an obvious, more routine shot.

Trump then settled and appeared to aim into the two closest balls that rested against one another.

It is not clear what the Englishman was attempting, but he may have hoped to graze one of the reds with minimal disturbance to then leave the white safe for Vafaei to take on his own awkward conundrum.

Instead, the ball came close to grazing the red before rolling into the bottom right pocket, leaving his opponent with four points added to his score, plus a free ball.

Studd began, saying: “A plant is offline for sure and he can’t be straightened out either.”

But he could not believe his eyes as the white was sunk.

He continued: “Well, this is a horrendous thing to happen. He’s left a free ball!

“Goodness me!

“It might not be a game changer but there’s a chance of it, and who would have thought he would a) miss the reds and b) leave a free ball here with the cue ball going in.

“Wow.”

Unfortunately for Trump, that did not help his tilt at the title, and he lost the quarter-final 6-5.
