Judd Trump blows away Tom Ford in 5-0 whitewash win at Wuhan Open 2023, will face Wu Yize or Aaron Hill in semi-finals
Judd Trump powered his way into the Wuhan Open semi-finals with a superb 5-0 whitewash win over Tom Ford.
It was a clinical performance from the world No. 4, but Ford will be left wondering what might have been in an error-strewn display.
Trump was in imperious form and ruthlessly capitalised on Ford’s errors from the first frame, as he blew a chance to pot the yellow to the bottom left.
The world No. 4 would pot that to the middle-left pocket to draw first blood after a scrappy first frame.
He would move on his way to a 2-0 lead after a clearance of 67, but would choose to go for a safety shot with the final two reds in an awkward position.
Ford could do little in reply though, and Trump marched on after downing a red to the bottom pocket.
Trump advanced into a 3-0 lead with a superb break of 118, as he brilliantly sunk a red to the bottom right, and then supremely opened up the pack of reds to dispatch them all.
He potted the last of those as part of a neat red-black combination, before proceeding to clear up the colours with relative ease.
Trump was on his way to a 4-0 lead after coming out on top in a safety battle, as he potted a red into the left pocket. He had already done enough to move within one frame of victory, despite failing to land an ambitious-looking long pink to the yellow pocket.
The fifth and final frame was a more cagey affair, but still yielded the same outcome.
Trump gave Ford the faintest of hopes of getting off the mark with a modest break of 25.
However, Ford gift-wrapped the frame and match to Trump when he left a red ideally positioned over the middle-right pocket, which the English Open champion predictably knocked in and cleared up to the black ball.
Trump can now look forward to a last-four appearance with either Wu Yize or Aaron Hill in his 56th ranking semi-final.
