Judd Trump cruised past Luca Brecel to reach the World Grand Prix quarter-finals and set up Xiao Guodong clash

Judd Trump cruised past Luca Brecel after winning four frames without reply to advance into the World Grand Prix quarter-finals.

It was a stunning display of snooker from the reigning Masters champion, who made light work of the Belgian in Cheltenham.

Despite winning the Masters, there were a few question marks levelled at Trump, who did not hit his usual high standards until the last session of the final.

However, those questions were answered when seeing off Hossein Vafaei in the previous round, and he took that confidence into this excellent display here.

The world no.4 wrapped up the first frame after Brecel was left snookered behind the green, missed three shots before successfully taking a hit. However he conceded the frame at 70 points behind with only 75 points left to play for on the table.

Trump did not look back from that point, despite the next frame being much more competitive that at least gave Brecel some hope of making an impact in this match.

Brecel was able to pot the blue and give Trump something to think about behind the black. However, Trump potted the pink to wrap up the frame in 47 minutes.

The third frame quickly fell in Trump’s favour, as Trump gained even more momentum from potting a long red and then the black.

He potted seven reds and seven blacks in a dominant frame, but his break ended after missing a red down the side cushion.

Brecel needed a snooker on his return to the table, but Trump was able to drop in a red and continued to clear up the table. The 3-0 lead was his and left him one frame away from a seemingly inevitable victory.

Brecel managed to pot a red after Trump missed one to the left middle, but managed to knock a black onto the top rail.

This opened it up for Trump to pot the balls seamlessly and ultimately clinch the frame 79-14. Trump will now meet Xiao Guodong in the quarter-finals.
