Judd Trump switches to right-handed for bad miss in shock loss to Zhang Anda at Scottish Open – ‘His hand was shaking!’

There was a key moment during Judd Trump’s shock defeat to Zhang Anda at the Scottish Open on Tuesday afternoon when he missed a strange shot while playing right-handed.

The Bristolian had already racked up 24 points during the second frame with his opponent having assumed an early advantage when he found himself in a spot of bother with the cue ball stuck up against a cluster of reds.

It was a piece of poor positional play that led to him being stuck next to the reds, and initially he toyed with the idea of playing left-handed as normal to get himself out of trouble in difficult circumstances.

But after a long while of plotting his next move, Trump surprisingly switched hands and then bridged over the reds to try to hit the cue ball playing right-handed. It just made the task even more difficult, seemingly.

So it proved as the 34-year-old scuffed his shot with a horrible miscue as the cue ball made contact with the target red in tame fashion and left the table open for Zhang.

“Well, he has switched to right-handed,” Joe Johnson, who was on commentary for Eurosport at the time, noted.

“He is hampered badly over those reds. This is a difficult shot for a natural player right-handed.”

‘What a performance!’ – Trump dumped out of Scottish Open by in-form Zhang

After he miscued, Johnson continued: “Everything was moving there, wasn’t it – his hand was shaking! The cue was wobbling about.

“He was a little unfortunate going into the cluster and not finishing on the red that he wanted to be on.”

It certainly was not Trump’s day as he slumped out of the tournament.
