Julian Nagelsmann and Marco Silva considered for Chelsea job, Graham Potter may replace Brendan Rodgers – Paper Round

Nagelsmann leads the way to replace Potter

Chelsea have already reached out to make contact with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann following the dismissal of Graham Potter on Sunday evening. Nagelsmann was sacked from his role at Bayern during the March international break, but could make a swift return to management with Chelsea. The Mail report that the 35-year-old is leading the way in the Blues’ search for a new boss, while Mauricio Pochettino is also being considered by the west London club.

The Mail confirm: “Former Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann is among the contenders to replace Potter and it is understood that initial contact, through intermediaries, has already taken place.

“Chelsea may struggle to persuade the 35-year-old to take a job so soon after his sacking at Bayern 10 days ago, but Nagelsmann, who is also wanted by Tottenham to replace Antonio Conte, is viewed by many at Stamford Bridge as the strongest candidate.

“Mauricio Pochettino, who was a contender for the position following Thomas Tuchel’s sacking in September, is available. But the fact he was overlooked for the role as Chelsea eventually appointed Potter may suggest the Blues will explore other options first.”

Chelsea could look closer to home

However, the Mirror believe that Chelsea could turn to Marco Silva, who is currently in charge of fellow west Londoners, Fulham. The Portuguese manager has previous Premier League experience with Watford and Everton, and is reportedly viewed as a surprise choice by Chelsea.

The Mirror report: “Fulham boss Silva could be yet another left-field appointment by Chelsea’s co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

“The Portuguese former Fulham and Everton boss has admirers at Stamford Bridge with his promoted club sitting above the Blues in the Premier League table.”

Foxes consider cunning move for Potter

Leicester City have made recently-sacked ex-Chelsea manager Graham Potter their top target to replace Brendan Rodger, who parted ways with the former Premier League champions on Sunday afternoon. The Foxes are not willing to rush their decision-making process and are also considering the likes of Rafael Benitez, Jesse Marsch and Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Mail reveal: “Leicester would be interested to know the Graham Potter’s immediate plans following his sacking by Chelsea.

“It is unclear whether Potter would want to jump straight back on to the horse but if Leicester were to survive this season, he would likely be top of their long-term list.

“Rafael Benitez, Jesse Marsch and Ralph Hasenhuttl have all led sides to Premier League safety while Adi Hutter, the former Borussia Monchengladbach boss, would be a leftfield option.”

Liverpool want Chelsea midfielder

Liverpool are ready to make a surprise summer move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to the Independent. Jurgen Klopp is keen to add some new faces to his midfield options and Gallagher seems to possess the traits needed to inject more energy and intensity to the German’s squad on Merseyside. Liverpool are hopeful of being able to negotiate a deal with Premier League rivals, Chelsea.

The Independent report: “Klopp is seeking to upgrade Liverpool’s midfield after a difficult season and it is believed that Gallagher has exactly the kind of energy and attributes that could go to another level in the German’s team.

“While there would usually be a greater difficulty in bringing an England international from another traditional big six” Premier League club, Chelsea are under pressure to offload a number of players this summer.

“Gallagher is a player they would at least consider an approach for, although he has been seen as a valuable option by both Thomas Tuchel and [Graham] Potter.”
