Julian Sands spoke of finding human remains while hiking in one of his final interviews prior to his death

British actor Julian Sands — whose remains were discovered last month after going missing in the southern California mountains — spoke of finding remains himself while on climbs during one of his final interviews.

“I’ve found spooky things on mountains, when you know you’re in a place where many people have lost their lives, whether it be on the Eiger or in the Andes,” Sands told Radio Times last year — months before the actor disappeared on his solo hike.

“You may be confronted with human remains and that can be chilling. It’s not necessarily supernatural, it’s possibly all too natural – what I would call hypernatural,” the “A Room With A View,” actor said.

Sands was reported missing by his wife on Jan. 13 after the 65-year-old actor failed to return from his solo venture up Mount Baldy in the San Gabriel mountain range.

“You’re in the presence of big nature and big nature is revealing itself in all its power. It can take us over a threshold of hypersensitivity into a realm of natural forces,” Sands told the Magazine, expressing the danger in his nature exploration endeavors.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted eight separate ground and air searches — most recently on June 17 — to locate Sands but were unsuccessful in their efforts — with authorities blaming severe weather, including high winds, poor visibility, and icy conditions making it difficult to search.

Last week, California hikers discovered Sands’ human remains in the Mount Baldy wilderness.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands,” the department said in a statement.

The San Bernardino County Coroner later confirmed that the remains were a positive ID of the “Arachnophobia” star, ending the extensive search for the British-born actor.

The Sands’ cause of death is still under investigation.

The “Warlock” actor was a committed mountain climber but revealed that in recent years he and his “pals” had “stopped going to the mountains” due to the rock faces becoming more unstable with climate change, and his age playing a factor in the physically demanding explorations.

“If you don’t really have the desire, the focus for climbing a route if you’re not absolutely committed, it becomes much more dangerous,” he said during the interview with Radio Times.

Mt. Baldy is considered one of the most dangerous peaks in California.

Since 2020, six others have died trying to scale the mountain — with over 100 searches conducted as thrillseekers and hiking veterans flock yearly to the challenge of the 10,000-foot peak, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Following the discovery of his remains, his family released a statement saying the “Leaving Las Vegas” actor would always hold a place in their “hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.”

“Julian was a great friend and client. He chose interesting projects that mattered to him and was adored by everyone who worked with him,” Sands’ manager, Sarah Jackson, said in a statement to The Post.

Sands has four projects due to be released, according to IMDb.

“He was a passionate climber, and we draw consolation from knowing that he passed in a place he loved, doing what he loved,” Jackson added. “We are filled with the most beautiful memories.”
