Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have their say on Chelsea’s transfer spending ahead of Premier League weekend
Jurgen Klopp says he does not understand how Chelsea have spent so much money in the transfer window, given guidelines in spending.
Since Todd Boehly became chairman in May, Chelsea have spent over £600m in the two transfer windows with £323m being dished out in January.
That figure was more than every team’s total spend in the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and La Liga combined.

“I don’t understand this part of the business, what can you do or not do,” said Klopp when asked about Chelsea’s spending.
“It is a big number. The players they bought in are all really good players. So from that point of view congratulations. I don’t understand how it is possible, but it is not my job to explain how it works.”
‘A really exciting player’ – Chelsea boss Potter on Mudryk
Chelsea handed out long-term contracts to Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Fernandez, which mean they are within the spending regulations as the cost of the players can be divided up per year.
Pep Guardiola says he “knew what would happen” when queried about Chelsea’s busy transfer windows.
“What Chelsea have done is none of my business,” said the Manchester City manager.
“Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, United… without good players you have to spend. Now the market is ‘wow’. What they do is not my business.”
He added: “What I can control is the fact we won 11 titles in the last five years being one of the five or six net spend teams in the league.
“This is all I’m concerned about what we’ve done so far in this time.”
