Juvenile detention officer accused of writing racy letters to teen inmate

A Florida juvenile detention center sergeant has been accused of sending a 16-year-old inmate a flurry of racy letters found in his bed — where she “fantasized” about having sex with him, authorities said.

Katelyn Gomez, 27, who served at the Pinellas Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Clearwater but has now been fired, allegedly penned 10 sexually explicit letters to the jailed teenage boy, according to a statement from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

“The letters explicitly described what would take place during their first sexual encounter and described an ongoing relationship which had developed while the victim was incarcerated,” officials said.

When interviewed by deputies, Gomez allegedly admitted to writing the racy notes — and stated she began developing a relationship with the young inmate when they met at the facility several weeks ago.

“Gomez admitted that she fantasized about having a sexual relationship with the victim and planned to build a life with him once he was released,” according to the statement.

Gomez was hired as a sergeant in January and was assigned to the juvenile suspect’s pod three weeks ago.

The officer was instructed not to be alone with the juveniles, but other staff members were said to have observed her “one-on-one with the victim several times.”

Gomez was arrested on Wednesday on a charge of solicitation of a child to engage in an act that constitutes sexual battery by a person in familial or custodial authority.
