Kaitlin Armstrong spent months planning escape from Texas jail

Accused murderer Kaitlin Armstrong spent months “exercising vigorously” and meticulously planning her great escape from custody this week — only to be caught minutes after bolting through a Texas neighborhood.

Armstrong, 34, had allegedly faked a leg injury that would grant her a trip out of her Austin jail cell to a city doctor’s office, where she spontaneously sprinted from the two corrections officers who were escorting her, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Austin American Statesman.

The suspected killer with a history of fleeing ran more than a block into a residential area before the officers were able to recapture her.

Armstrong was dragged back to jail, where she was awaiting trial for allegedly killing professional cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson, 25, in a fit of rage after finding out she had a relationship with Armstrong’s then-boyfriend when the couple was on the outs.

According to Travis County Correctional officials, Armstrong put her months behind bars to good use.

Jail video footage spanning months shows the former yoga teacher “exercising vigorously” throughout the facility, as well as routinely running, doing squats and practicing her former profession.

Armstrong continued her intense workout regime while complaining of injuries requiring specialized medical attention, the documents state.

Officials believe she specifically complained of a leg injury so that she wouldn’t be required to wear leg restraints when she was brought to the physician’s office.

She had just finished up the external appointment and was being led by two corrections officers back to the transport vehicle “when she ran,” officials said last week.

Armstrong had somehow wiggled her left hand out of her arm restraints — potentially with a “solid thin piece [of metal]” investigators later found in a search of her cell.

The plan fell apart when Armstrong slipped off her striped uniform pants during the brief foot chase, “which revealed she was wearing thermal pants underneath, in an effort to disguise her appearance as an inmate.”

She was trying to climb a fence when the two officers yanked her back to the ground, causing both to sustain minor injuries to their arms and knees, the document states.

Armstrong is now charged with escape causing bodily injury, an additional felony count on top of the murder charge.

The jailbreak is not the first time Armstrong has attempted to flee since being fingered for the 2022 murder — she spent 43 days in a Costa Rican hostel before she was hunted down by US Marshals.

The accused murderer drastically altered her face and used several aliases as she moved around the country while attempting to establish herself as a yoga instructor.
