Kalvin Phillips to give up ‘multi-million pound pay-off’ as Manchester City exit looms – Paper Round
Phillips will ‘give up multi-million pound pay-off’ to leave City
Kalvin Phillips will have to “give up a multi-million pound pay-off” if he leaves Manchester City in January, according to reports.
Phillips’ future at the Etihad has long been in question and the England international now looks set to finally move on.
“Yet he is no nearer forcing his way in, and knows playing cameo roles for the rest of the season is likely to affect his England hopes.
“Newcastle, West Ham and Bayern Munich are all keen.
“And if City recoup close to the £42 million he cost from Leeds two seasons ago, a deal could be done.
“They would also listen to loan offers – if the successful club covers his wages and gives a commitment to buy next summer.
“Phillips still has four-and-a-half years left on his £150,000-a-week contract, and City were resigned to paying a huge chunk of that to smooth an exit path.
“Yet City insiders claim the player is ready to accept around half that figure to get his career moving in the right direction again.”
Sancho offered European escape route
Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho could move to a club in Europe on loan this January, it’s been claimed.
“While a return to Dortmund for the 23-year-old has been mooted, it is understood that they are not currently actively seeking to bring Sancho back to Germany.
“However, it has also been claimed that their interest could shift immediately if the numbers to bring Sancho back made sense. Given the outlay they spent on him, and with the ownership takeover saga still up in the air at Old Trafford, United would probably rather sell Sancho and recoup some of the huge transfer fee they paid for him.”
Sancho has been frozen out at Old Trafford after being excluded from the squad as United lost 3-1 to Arsenal in September, with Erik ten Hag saying that his training performances had been below standard.
Casemiro ‘regrets’ Man Utd move
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro “has regrets” over leaving Real Madrid for the Old Trafford club, states a report in the Mirror.
“That is despite Casemiro sending a text to his agent ahead of his move to United, when watching their early season four-goal loss at Brentford in August 2022, saying: ‘Tell them I’ll fix this.’ Casemiro’s response to United’s heavy loss at Brentford also saw the midfielder phone the club’s football director John Murtough. That was not to tell him that he was having doubts about leaving Real Madrid – but to give assurances that he couldn’t wait to get started at Old Trafford.”
Casemiro joined United in a £70 million deal last summer and starred in his debut season in England, helping the club end their six-year trophy drought with the EFL Cup title and also claim a return to the UEFA Champions League. However, a dip in form this season has coincided with a slow start to the campaign for United.
United ‘keeping tabs’ on Boey
Manchester United are reportedly “keeping tabs” on Galatasaray right-back Sacha Boey.
“Ten Hag watched Boey close up earlier this month when Galatasaray left Old Trafford with a shock 3-2 win in the Champions League.
“And the 23-year-old’s form throughout the start of the season has attracted interest from elsewhere after he reportedly missed out on a move to Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer.
“According to Turkish outlet Fotospor, Brighton are back in for Boey, joined by Burnley and United in monitoring the France U20 international’s progress.
“Scouts from all three clubs are claimed to have been in attendance at Saturday’s 2-1 win against Besiktas in the Istanbul derby, as well as those from Italian, French and Spanish outfits.
“The report adds that while United could have been watching other names at RAMS Park, Boey is a favourite among club scouts.”
