Kate Middleton hoped to be a ‘peacemaker’ for William and Harry: royal source
Kate Middleton, 41, is more than just a Princess — she’s also a peacemaker, according to one royal expert.
Valentine Low, author of the 2023 book “Courtiers,” which details the ins and outs of the royal’s trusted advisors, has claimed that Middleton was the mediator between brothers Prince William, 41, and Prince Harry, 38, during times of tension.
“She brings a reassurance to that relationship,” Low said during an appearance on the July 10 episode of the “Scandal Mongers” podcast about her relationship with her husband.
“She was often the peacemaker, or tried to be the peacemaker, with Harry,” Valentine continued. “You saw that after Philip’s funeral, when she kind of brought the brothers together.”
The Post reached out to representatives for Kensington Palace and Prince Harry for comment.
During the podcast, he also spoke about Middleton’s alleged response to the Oprah interview that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, 41, filmed in March 2021.
Over the past few years, there have been some apparent tensions between brothers Prince William and Prince Harry.
In 2018, Vanity Fair’s royal reporter, Katie Nicholl, claimed that there was a rift between the two siblings, which had inspired Harry and Meghan’s move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate.
Nicholl also alleged in a 2019 TLC documentary titled, “Kate v. Meghan: Princesses at War?” that William believed his brother’s relationship with Meghan Markle, 41, had moved “too quickly,” which caused some awkwardness between them, per Cosmopolitan.
That same year, Markle and Harry separated from the royal charity they shared with Middleton and William, TIME Magazine reported — however, they all continued to support Heads Together, which is the The Royal Foundation’s mental health initiative.
Many details of their alleged feud were also revealed in Harry’s bombshell, tell-all memoir “Spare,” which was released in January.
In the book, he alleged that his older bro physically “attacked” him during a spat over Markle, in 2019.
“He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,” Harry described in his autobiography. “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
He also branded his brother as his “arch-nemesis” in the memoir, and even said that he was bred for spare parts for the heir, William.
Shortly after the book was released, a source close to the royal household alleged to People that Prince William was quite “upset” about the page-turner.
“William is the one who is most upset and needs time to calm down,” the source claimed at the time. “He has been painted as hot-headed and unsympathetic.”
“But I don’t think he will back down — it’s whether they can move beyond it and accept that they view things differently,” the alleged insider added.
And, as Valentine mentioned during the podcast, Middleton was seen during Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021 trying to engage in conversation with Prince Harry.
All three of them later joined in chatting together, a moment that took place just one year after Prince Harry and his wife moved to Montecito, California.
With all this alleged drama, it’s not the first time that Middleton has been credited as the one to step in between the siblings.
In 2021, Gary Goldsmith, who is the brother of Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, told Closer Magazine that The Princess was a “brilliant arbiter and peacemaker.”
“The harsh truth — in my opinion — is that if Harry doesn’t get a grip and stop this self-indulgent episode, there will soon be no common ground or relationship to rebuild,” Goldsmith said at the time.
He continued, adding, “But if anyone can bring peace to the royals, Kate can. Kate is a brilliant arbiter and peacemaker. Every bone in her body is about making friends and doing the best she can … She’s trying to mediate.”
But it looks like Kate Middleton isn’t the only one who wants the brothers to get along — another royal expert recently claimed that King Charles is “keen” to heal their rift as well.
“I mean… he’s quite keen to heal that family rift,” said Richard Palmer, the Daily Express’ royal reporter and expert, during an episode of The Daily Express’ Royal Round Up.
“But, you know, it’s obviously very raw at the moment and it’s very noticeable,” Palmer said. “While I’d say he’s keen to heal that rift, he hasn’t met his son the last two times he’s been over to the UK.”
