Katy Perry reacts to viral moment at King Charles coronation
Katy Perry won’t “Cry About It Later.”
The 38-year-old singer went viral on social media earlier this month when she had trouble finding her seat at the coronation of King Charles III ahead of her performance at the celebration concert — but she doesn’t mind.
“Well, I just want everybody to know, thank you so much for your concern,” Perry deadpanned in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I found my seat.”
The “American Idol” judge — who donned a lavender Vivienne Westwood suit set with a matching large hat at the May 6 event — arrived at the coronation ceremony and walked through the pews at Westminster Abbey trying to find her seat.
At one point, she even appeared to ask someone for assistance.
A video of the moment went viral on Twitter, amusing fans.
“This is a new reaction vid if I’ve ever seen one,” one person wrote.
“Even Katy Perry gets lost sometimes, but she always finds her way to the top,” another noted.
Perry herself even got in on the joke, tweeting, “Don’t worry guys I found my seat.”
Even now, the “Hot N Cold” singer looks back at the moment with a laugh.
“You know, the memes are meme-ing and I love it,” Perry told ET on Sunday. “When you look when you look one way for fifteen seconds it’s just all of a sudden the internet takes over.”
Perry apparently doesn’t mind being the butt of the joke — in fact, she expected to be turned into a meme when the internet saw her outfit for Sunday’s Disney Week on “American Idol.”
She went all out for the themed episode, dressing as Elastigirl, or Mrs. Incredible, from “The Incredibles” — a costume she chose as a tribute to Mother’s Day.
“I figured out that Mother’s Day and Disney Night were the same night. I had a whole different costume — maybe we’ll never ever see it maybe we’ll see it next time — but I went, ‘No, we’ve got to be the most iconic Disney mom,’ and it’s Elastigirl,” Perry said.
She claims she prepared for the role of dressing up as Elastigirl by watching the movie with her 2-year-old daughter, Daisy, with Orlando Bloom.
“We were watching the movie a couple of times this past week so I could really get into the mode and start talking like through the side of my mouth, which I still can’t get, but it was awesome,” Perry said. “She loved it.”
“We had a wonderful Mother’s Day this morning and then, you know, I turned into Elastigirl,” she shared on Sunday. “That’s what moms do! They just know how to juggle so hard. Like, do a little brunch and then get into a full latex costume.”
The “Fireworks” singer has faced a string of backlash during her time as a judge on “Idol,” with viewers calling her “rude” for “mom-shaming” one competitor and booed for critiquing another’s outfit.
But once again, she doesn’t seem to care.
“Katy isn’t fazed by the backlash,” an inside source exclusively told Page Six. “This has been a rollercoaster season with a lot of great talent, so she is just doing her job.”
Fans are even campaigning on social media to permanently remove Perry as a judge and replace her with Alanis Morissette, 48, who filled in for her while she and co-judge Lionel Richie, 73 — who was substituted by Ed Sheeran — performed at the coronation concert.
The finale of “American Idol” airs next Sunday, May 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
