King Charles’ 2018 birthday photo was ‘nightmare’ with Harry, William
As King Charles commemorates his 75th birthday on Tuesday, memories about his past celebrations are coming to light.
In 2018, the monarch memorialized his big 7-0 with a series of formal portraits with his family.
Charles and Queen Camilla took some snaps in the gardens of Clarence House alongside sons Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the time.
However, in Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s biographical book “Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan,” the authors claimed that arranging the photoshoot was an “absolute nightmare.”
The Prince of Wales, 41, and the Duke of Sussex, 39, didn’t try hard to ensure the snapshots came together either.
The estranged brothers reportedly “can be hot and cold with their father,” the book claims.
Scobie and Durand penned: “Neither William nor Harry made much of an effort to make themselves available.”
In the photo, William and Kate’s children — Prince George and Princess Charlotte — sat on a bench next to Charles and Camilla while Kate held a baby Prince Louis behind them. Harry and Meghan, who weren’t parents just yet, stood next to William and Kate in the back.
It would only be revealed years later in Harry’s 2023 memoir, “Spare,” that the foursome were seemingly at odds behind-the-scenes at the time. In one excerpt, he claimed that Kate and Meghan had a confrontation when Meghan referenced Kate’s “baby brain because of her hormones” following Louis’ birth.
The Duke of Cambridge, meanwhile, shared a slew of photos for his father’s 75th birthday tribute on Tuesday — with many critics slamming him for excluding Harry.
The estranged brothers have been feuding in recent years, with Markle, 42, and Harry moving to California in 2020 and stepping down from their senior royal roles.
The photos showed an older teen William hugging his father while on the ski slopes, as well as a pic of Camilla, 76, waving on the balcony of Buckingham Palace alongside members of the Firm.
Commenters wondered why Harry was snubbed in the post, with one person writing: “What about Harry, Archie and Lilibet?”
“[You] ignored the little Brother,” someone else noted. “That’s just sad to leave out Harry !!! What’s wrong with these people.”
But Harry made a surprise appearance on the royal family’s official Instagram account’s tribute.
The photos from Charles’ life included one from Harry’s birth in 1984 and another of him smiling next to Charles at a 1996 event.
A “well-placed source” told the BBC recently that while Harry won’t be joining the family at the king’s birthday party at Clarence House Tuesday, he will ring up his dad for his special day.
Harry “will be putting in a birthday phone call to his father,” the outlet reported. “The plans for a phone message might be seen as an olive branch.”
Last week, it was reported that Harry and the “Suits” alum declined an invite to the event.
However, Harry’s rep told The Messenger on Nov. 6: “In response to UK media headlines, there has been no contact regarding an invitation to His Majesty’s upcoming birthday.”
