King Charles smiles as he returns to London for cancer treatment with Queen Camilla by his side
King Charles flashed a smile as he returned to rainy London with Queen Camilla to undergo more cancer treatment.
The monarch, 75, revealed his cancer diagnosis on Feb. 5 and has since begun outpatient treatment.
Charles was spotted arriving in London via helicopter Tuesday morning after spending the better part of a week at his royal residence in Sandringham.
The couple was then driven to Clarence House.
The King is expected to hold face-to-face meetings in an official capacity this week, despite also undergoing treatment.
He will spend a day in London before returning to Sandringham.
The king’s arrival in London comes a day after he and Camilla were seen walking to St. Mary Magdalene Church, near Sandringham.
On Saturday, the monarch broke his silence over the shocking diagnosis, thanking the public for the support he’s received since the news came to light.
Charles said that such thoughts are “the greatest comfort and encouragement.”
“It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world,” he said in a statement.
“My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience.”
The Palace revealed Charles’ diagnosis after he underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate. There, doctors discovered “a separate issue of concern” that requires treatment.
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the Feb. 5 statement read. “Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”
Buckingham Palace later clarified that the cancer was not prostate cancer.
As a result, the King’s eldest son, Prince William, made a quick return to official duties and has already hosted a handful of royal engagements within the past week.
Meanwhile, William’s wife Kate Middleton continues to recover from unspecified abdominal surgery last month.
The Princess of Wales is not expected to return to official royal duties until after Easter.
