King Charles’ strange food phobias revealed before coronation: ‘He shrieked’

King Charles III apparently has some food-related quirks – and they’re coming to light ahead of this weekend’s coronation.

In a recently resurfaced tidbit from Tom Bower’s 2018 book about then-Prince Charles, titled “Rebel Prince,” the author wrote that the monarch didn’t know what cling wrap was, and he allegedly was quite taken aback when he first saw it, according to the Mirror.

“He walked into the dining room and shrieked,” the book said of the 74-year-old royal, recounted the outlet.

“Fearing the worst, Camilla dashed in after him. ‘What’s this?’ asked her husband, pointing at the food.”

An excerpt was published in the Guardian at the time of its release, but the Clarence House did not comment on it then so it’s unclear whether it is royal fact — or fiction.

Now, some of his other dietary oddities are being revealed by Carolyn Robb, a former chef who worked for the monarch for 11 years starting in 1989.

While speaking to OK! Magazine, she claimed that the future king hated food that wasn’t in season – particularly strawberries.

“Charles always had a modest amount of meat in his diet, and everything had to be in season – so no imported strawberries in December,” she said, according to the Mirror.

“These are things we now understand as being far better for the environment,” Robb continued. “I’d prepare home cooking with the freshest ingredients. Leftovers would go into a quiche the next day.”

During the interview, she praised the monarch, saying that he was very “kind” and “understanding.”

The former chef additionally claimed that he would write little notes complimenting her food.

“I’ve never met anyone so hard-working, yet he’d still find time to write little notes saying, ‘Thank you, that was delicious,’ ” she told the outlet, according to the Mirror.

And it looks like his love for the environment inspired the meat-free dish chosen to be the official meal of the coronation weekend: the much-derided coronation quiche.

The dish, which was announced by Buckingham Palace in April, features a mixture of spinach, fava beans, cheese and tarragon – a change from the traditional coronation chicken.

In March, a job listing revealed that the king even wanted to hire a vegan chef at Buckingham Palace, as he sticks to a meat- and dairy-free diet a few days per week.

The king is also a lover of eggs, according to the Independent.

Hopefully he will be treated to fresh, in-season strawberries and his own coronation quiche this Saturday when he is officially crowned in a traditional coronation at Westminster Abbey.

The event will feature performances from Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Andrea Bocelli.

And King Charles’ son, Prince Harry, will also make an appearance – but he won’t be joined by his wife, Meghan Markle.

The controversial couple starred in their own docu-series on Netflix, “Harry & Meghan,” which was released in December.

It’s the first time the royal will be in the United Kingdom with his family since the release of his tell-all bombshell memoir in January, “Spare.”
