Kylian Mbappe will require special tactics in second leg, according to Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann admitted his team will have a harder task to keep Paris Saint-Germain quiet in their Champions League last 16 second leg – should Kylian Mbappe be fit to start.

The forward came off the bench for the final half an hour of their first leg encounter but could not prevent his team falling to a 1-0 defeat in the French capital.

Making his return after two weeks out with injury, Mbappe did find the net but his strike was ruled out for offside in the build-up.

The teams meet in Germany in the return fixture in March and Nagelsmann said his team may have to change their tactics to nullify the French superstar’s threats.

“Mbappe can change any match by himself. PSG woke up when he was subbed on. They are better with Mbappe than without him”, the Bayern boss said.

“In the second leg, we’ll have good ideas to counter him and can hurt them in attack. It’s clear that Mbappe can unlock any game.”

Reflecting on his team’s overall performance, Nagelsmann said: “We played really well in the first 25 minutes and had very good control. We could still have played more straight forward towards the goal. There was a feeling that we were very surprised we had the ball so much and Paris chose to sit back.

“I knew that they always defended deeply, but I was a bit surprised they were so passive, so deep and not designed to win the ball at all.”

For PSG, it was a third successive defeat and it was inflicted on them by one of their former players, Kingsley Coman.

He volleyed home a left-sided cross from Alphonso Davies to give Munich the advantage in the tie, but was reserved in his celebrations.

Speaking after the match, Coman said: “Scoring at the Parc des Princes is a childhood dream. It was a special moment. It’s the club where I grew up, the city where I was born. So I didn’t want to celebrate here in front of the fans.”
