Kyren Wilson explains why he wore an oven glove in Snooker Shoot Out win – ‘Why not bring it out?’

Kyren Wilson decided to wear an oven glove during his Snooker Shoot Out second-round win on Friday afternoon.

The former World Championship finalist is looking to bounce back at the event this weekend after a 6-5 defeat to world No. 60 Jamie Clarke, despite being 5-1 up, at the UK Championship last week.

An error from Dorgham allowed Wilson back into the frame and he capitalised in a 71-14 win. Once Wilson knew the frame was sealed, he put a bright red oven glove on his bridge hand to the delight of the crowd inside Swansea Arena.

“The kitchen were kind enough to lend me it,” Wilson explained to Eurosport after the match.

“I just thought this event is so much fun. Obviously I got it out when I won the frame, I wouldn’t do it if I needed to win it. Everyone wants a good time.

“It’s a good weekend. So yeah, why not bring it out?

“I just kept hearing someone shout ‘don’t forget the roast’. I’m cooking a roast apparently.

“It’s Friday, we all want to have a good time so yeah I’m just enjoying myself. It actually looks like a boxing glove doesn’t it.”

Eurosport’s Reanne Evans jokingly replied: “I just thought maybe you thought the table got a bit hot and thought ‘I need the glove’.”

Wilson has made it through to the finals day on Saturday and he said that he is currently enjoying his snooker as he bids to qualify for the World Grand Prix next month by having a strong showing this week and at the Scottish Open in Edinburgh next week.

“You can see from that I’m really sharp, I’m playing so well,” he said.

“Daniel Wells, who I beat on Wednesday, was kind enough to practice with me yesterday. I’m putting the work in.”

Wilson also made an on-air apology down the camera lens as he is missing a wedding this weekend to be taking part in finals day.

He said: “I just wanted to say Adam and Becky I’m sorry I can’t make your wedding now I’m currently going to be staying in Swansea for the weekend.”
