LA mansion owner says ‘tenant from hell’ has finally moved out

A woman who has been described as the “tenant from hell” for squatting at a luxurious Los Angeles mansion for more than a year and a half has finally left the property — but left it with a rancid odor and infested with flies.

Elizabeth Hirschhorn, 55, was spotted Friday moving boxes out of Dr. Sascha Jovanovic’s Brentwood guest house with the help of three male friends, according to the Daily Mail.

The 61-year-old homeowner said it was “quite a crazy moment.”

Jovanovic said he and his attorney, Sebastian Rucci, were at his house being interviewed about Hirschhorn’s refusal to leave unless he paid her a $100,000 relocation fee when “at once, these three men started walking on the property.”

The mansion owner decided to confront the strange men, and he said they mentioned something about the guest house where Hirschhorn was staying.

“I walked over to the guest house, knocked on the door, nobody answered,” he recounted Monday on NewNation’s Banfield.

“So then I called the police as a home invasion, three men entering our property.”

The police then arrived at the luxurious mansion overlooking the City of Angels and oversaw Hirschhorn’s move.

When she was finally out Friday night, Jovanovich entered his guest house for the first time in months and found it empty — but infested with flies, he said.

“There was [a] smell, it was dirty,” the dentist said. “And yeah, it was kind of something that my first reaction was [that] everything has to go or be given to charity.”

He also said he and his attorney assumed Hirschhorn had finally abandoned the property and Jovanovic changed the locks to the guest house — which sits adjacent to his children’s bedroom — so that she can never return.

Jovanovic said he changed the locks to the guest house in the aftermath and found the property in disarray.

But when Rucci contacted Hirschhorn’s attorney Amanda Seward the next day to suggest canceling an upcoming eviction hearing, he was told that Hirschhorn’s leave of the property should only be considered “temporary.”

She told him that he “jumped the gun” by changing the locks, saying Hirschhorn had “discussed with me concern over the constant harassment and surveillance,” according to the Mail.

“Subject to my discussions, please be advised that you have no authority to change the locks or to assume abandonment of the property,” Seward replied.

Rucci said he was stunned when he read the email.

Hirschhorn had rented a long-term stay at Jovanovic’s guest home in September 2021 for six months at a rate of $105 a night, with fees bringing the total to $20,793, according to court documents.

“I’m thinking like ‘no,’ so I responded back and said, ‘No it’s on you. If you want to get back, you go to court,’” he said.

Hirschhorn, a Harvard graduate, is now reportedly staying at a fully-furnished apartment in an extended-stay hotel in downtown Los Angeles, which costs $3,600 a month, the Mail reported.

It comes with a pool, a rooftop tennis court and a fully-equipped fitness center.

“I cannot believe that a person like this can actually rent something, so maybe she co-signed with somebody,” Jovanovic said Monday of the report on her new living situation.

“I just have to tell them, like honestly, do your background check. This lady is up [to] no good. She will do this again, because she’s done it for 21 years — and you know, he needs to be stopped.”

Hirschhorn, a Harvard graduate, was previously accused of refusing to leave another property in Oakland.

Hirschhorn rented a long-term stay at Jovanovic’s guest home in September 2021 for six months at a rate of $105 a night, with fees bringing the total to $20,793, according to court documents.

Her rental expired in March 2022, but Jovanovic decided to extend it another month.

Still, she would not leave the property — and had been living there rent-free ever since.

Airbnb declined to get involved in the dispute, citing Jovanovic’s decision to extend her rental beyond what she had paid for on the app.

Jovanovic then brought Hirschhorn to court to get her evicted, but a Los Angeles judge ruled that he had no legal reason to oust her under the city’s Just Cause Ordinance — and would be required to pay her a relocation fee if he wanted her gone.

Hirschhorn’s attorneys argued in court documents that she needed $100,000 for the relocation fee, and said she should not have to pay rent.

Instead, they argued, Jovanovic should pay her back the $20,793 she initially spent on the rental because the city never approved the guest house for occupancy, and its shower was constructed without a permit.

It was later revealed that Hirschhorn was previously accused of refusing to leave another property — just months before she moved into Jovanovic’s guest house.

The Massachusetts native agreed to sublet the room in a $2.6 million Oakland cottage around September 2019 from tenant Alex Lewin, but eventually became embroiled in a dispute with him over cleaning, according to documents obtained by the Daily Mail,

A lawsuit filed by Lewin along with property owners Brian and Gordon Bishop claims Brian “is informed and believes defendant made unreasonable requests of Mr. Lewin to replace all of her personal items that were allegedly damaged by an unknown substance that was released into the air.

Jovanovic said he couldn’t believe another landlord would let her rent out a property.

“Additionally, defendant made requests for Mr. Lewin to clean the premises in a very specific manner due to her hypersensitivity to allergens.”

But Hirschhorn countersued the landlords, claiming their actions had been harmful to her health and accusing them of negligence.

Hirschhorn also allegedly went on to argue that the landlords “pressured” her to leave the property during the COVID shutdown, which she claimed amounted to “negligence.”

The case was eventually settled on July 20, 2021 — just over one month before she moved into Jovanovic’s guest house.
