Larry David for beats ‘the s—t out of Elmo’ on the ‘Today’ show

He needs to learn how to curb his fists.

It seems like Elmo is starting February off on the wrong foot after the poor Sesame Street resident was roughhoused by Larry David when he stopped by the “Today” show on Thursday.

The clip, which has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), shows Elmo and his father Louie chatting with hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin.

Guthrie, 52, then tosses the program over to Al Roker for his weather segment … though not even he could predict what would happen next.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait,” Kotb, 59, can be heard off-camera as a dismayed Roker, 69, looks off-screen.

The camera then cuts back to the anchors who are shocked to see “Curb Your Enthusiasm” actor Larry David, who had been on the show previously, attacking the red furry puppet.

“Oh my gosh,” cried Guthrie as David, 76, takes a swing at the puppet. ” You love Elmo don’t you.”

Following the short scuffle, which left Kotb and Melvin speechless, a smirking David walked off the set leaving a very angry Elmo in his wake.

“Mr. Larry, Elmo liked you before,” the disgruntled puppet called after the “Seinfeld” creator.

“Ask permission,” Melvin, 44, can be heard shouting in the background as the camera ever so briefly cuts to stunned Roker.

“Ask permission before you touch people, Larry” Melvin adds.

The brief altercation left several X users shocked.

“Larry David beat the s–t out of Elmo this morning,” declared one user.

“This is child abuse,” slammed another.

“1st the innocent tweet now an on-air beat down,” a third user said. “Been a rough couple days for Elmo.”

Some users also seemed to be upset that Elmo’s father didn’t rush to the defense of his son.

“And Elmo’s dad didn’t do anything,” chided one commenter.

“Elmo’s dad is a bum fr,” seethed a second person.

This is the second time in several days that the “Sesame Street” character has found himself the center of attention on social media.

On Monday, the red puppet went viral after tweeting: “Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?”

Little did Elmo know, he was about to be inundated with various responses ranging from football losses to job layoffs, to even marital woes and the impending destruction of the human race.

“Elmo I’m gonna be real I am at my f—king limit,” wrote one user, whose response has garnered more than half a million likes on the social media platform.

“Elmo each day the abyss we stare into grows a unique horror. One that was previously unfathomable in nature. Our inevitable doom which once accelerated in years, or months, now accelerates in hours, even minutes,” a third user dolefully ruminated. “However I did have a good grapefruit earlier, thank you for asking.”

The reaction to Elmo’s message even caught the attention of President Joe Biden, who assured his fellow Americans that no one is alone, even when things seem dark.

“I know how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days,” Biden, 81, wrote. “Our friend Elmo is right: We have to be there for each other, offer our help to a neighbor in need, and above all else, ask for help when we need it.”

“Even though it’s hard, you’re never alone,” the 46th president concluded

The outpouring of emotional reactions even took Elmo by surprise. So much so that he wrote in a follow-up tweet: “Wow! Elmo is glad he asked! Elmo learned that it is important to ask a friend how they are doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you. #EmotionalWellBeing.”

The official “Sesame Street” account also reacted by listing mental health resources.

“Thank you, @Elmo, for checking in with a reminder for us to pause and take a mindful moment to focus on how we’re feeling,” the account posted.
