Lauren Boebert’s husband flew into a rage when served divorce papers: report
Rep. Lauren Boebert’s husband was apparently caught off guard by her decision to file for divorce last month, court documents reveal – and was so irate that he reportedly set his dogs on the process server.
Boebert (R-CO), 36, announced on Tuesday that she was divorcing her husband of 18 years, Jayson, due to “irreconcilable differences.”
In an affidavit obtained by The Daily Beast this week, a process server claimed that Jayson became “extremely angry” when he realized he was being served with Dissolution of Marriage papers after the official filing on April 25.
“He started yelling and using profanities, and told me that I was trespassing, and that he was calling the Sheriff’s Office. I told him I was leaving the documents on the chair outside of the door, he closed the door then let the dogs out,” the server wrote.
Jayson was also reportedly drinking a beer and “cleaning his gun” when the process server arrived, the document alleged.
In a texted statement to The Daily Beast, Jayson said he was simply “upset” by the unexpected visit, and maintained that his dogs were “no threat.”
“I did not know what I was being served for or if it was some crazy left-wing person coming to my house again. I was not drinking and I was not cleaning any gun,” he insisted.
“The divorce is sad, I did not expect this, I love her with every bit of my heart, she has been my soul mate and she is the mother of my Children.”
In her 2022 memoir “My American Life,” Boebert recalled meeting Jayson – with whom she now shares four sons – at a Burger King where she worked at age 16.
She was forced to drop out of high school when she became pregnant with the couple’s first son during her senior year, though she received a GED before being elected to Congress in 2020.
Throughout her brief political career, the gun-slinging conservative firebrand has repeatedly touted family values.
When she announced in March that her 17-year-old son was about to become a father, the self-proclaimed born-again Christian heaped bizarre praise on areas with higher rates of teen parenthood.
“There’s something special about rural conservative communities,” she said.
“They value life. Teen moms’ rates are higher in rural conservative areas because they understand the preciousness of a life that it’s about to be born.”
Boebert and Jayson, however, had several brushes with the law during their nearly two decades together.
In Jan. 2004, less than a year after the couple met, Jayson was arrested for allegedly exposing himself to a young woman at a bowling alley. He served four days behind bars after pleading guilty to public indecency and lewd exposure.
Later that year, both Boebert and Jayson were arrested for separate incidents of domestic violence. Following her bust in May, Boebert was also slapped with underage drinking charges.
More recently, in Aug. 2022 the couple’s neighbors called the police to report that Jayson was running over their mailbox and threatening them.
“I’m sure he’s loaded to the hilt. Do you know who his wife is? Lauren Boebert. She’s loaded. They all have guns,” the frantic caller told the dispatcher.
As of May, no charges were filed stemming from the incident.
Despite the pair’s apparently contentious bond, Boebert said in her official statement on Tuesday that she approached the separation with “a heavy heart.”
“I’ve always been faithful in my marriage, and I believe strongly in marriage, which makes this announcement that much more difficult,” she said.
Boebert is not the only Republican rabble-rouser whose marriage seems to have broken down under the political spotlight: Her one-time ally, Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), announced last fall that she and her husband were also divorcing.
“Marriage is a wonderful thing and I’m a firm believer in it. Our society is formed by a husband and wife creating a family to nurture and protect,” Greene told The Post at the time.
