Liam Brearley and Julia Marino victorious in season-opening snowboard slopestyle World Cup competition

Canada’s Liam Brearley and USA’s Julia Marino won the snowboard slopestyle season-opener at Laax, Switzerland.

Brearley took his maiden World Cup win with a show-stopping second run that scored 89.93 points.

Ryoma Kimata of Japan also produced his best at the second time of asking, notching 85.31 for silver with Brearley joined on the podium by compatriot Cameron Spalding in third.

Brearley, 20, has won all four of his World Cup medals in slopestyle with his last coming at Silvaplana last year.

On the women’s side, Julia Marino made it nine career World Cup wins.

The American scored 83.08 to win gold ahead of German Annika Morgan and Austria’s Anna Gasser.
