EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT: JAMES IS THE NEW CHAMPION

As expected, Eithan James gets the nod, winning the WBO European Welterweight title by unanimous decision (98-92, 98-92, 97-94). What a performance!

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 10: WE GO TO THE SCORECARDS

It’s been a great fight, who will finish it off the better? Moorcroft has nothing to lose and lands a couple nice shots early but James hits back with a lovely snap left. He just has to keep his man at distance for a couple minutes.

Moorcroft does find success with an overhand right, but James takes it well. James then puts a nice combination together before Moorcroft applies some pressure and backs James onto the ropes. He rips some body shots, but he needs more than that. The pair go down swinging and show respect when the bell rings to end a brilliant fight. We go to the judges’ scorecards but there should be no surprises here.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 9: MOORCROFT ROCKS JAMES

Two to go and it’s desperate times for Moorcroft. But he lands a huge right that seems to rock James – can he pull off the comeback? The crowd sense it’s on but James seems to have recovered and lands a couple stalling lefts. We get the kind of close exchanges that Moorcroft needs to end the round and he lands another good uppercut as James starts to look tired.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 8: MOORCROFT’S LOOKS HURT

The corner is delighted with James, understandably so. They urge him to stay on the front foot, which he does, landing a jab at the bell. That’s bettered by a brilliant right at the end of a one-two. Moorcroft retaliates with a good uppercut but fails to back it up with anything. Perhaps sensing defeat is imminent, Moorcroft marches forward for the last minute and backs James into the corner momentarily but he fails to do any damage.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 7: JAMES CLOSING IN ON VICTORY

Moorcroft comes forward but it’s in hope rather than anything else. He swings but fails to find the elusive target that is James. He needs to get in closer, which he does midway through the round and lands a couple of nice body shots. After the break, Moorcroft lands a nice right but absorbs an even better uppercut at the same time. James lands some nice jabs to see out another round.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 6: JAMES LANDS A SLICK HOOK

James slips a right and lands a sweeping counter-hook. That was nice. Moorcroft tries to get in close again and slips in a nice uppercut, but James responds with a powerful jab. James’ movement is still superb even though we are more than halfway through the contest. A wild exchange is halted by the bell. A close round but it’s hard to imagine James isn’t dominating on the scorecards.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 5: JAMES TEEING OFF

It feels like the finish is near here. The start of the round is highly competitive, with Moorcroft landing some good shots. But back comes James, who finishes the round strong, stunning his opponent with some big, big shots. It feels like the end could be nigh.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 4: MOORCROFT LANDS A GOOD RIGHT

Two jabs set up a good right hand for James to start the round. He continues to pick off Moorcroft at will. Moorcroft fires back halfway through the round, feinting before landing a right that knocks James back a step. Moorcroft has a couple of chances to land a big shot with James’ left hand low but he fails to take them. Another close round that James probably shades.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 3: CHANGE OF TACTICS FOR MOORCROFT

James is starting to put together combinations now that Moorcroft’s offence has been blunted. Moorcroft aims a few shots to the body and tries to rough his opponent up. It’s definitely a better tactic but James still manages to clip him with a sharp left and a stiff right at the bell. A closer round for sure!

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 2: JAMES A LEVEL ABOVE

Moorcroft walks forward but straight into a couple of shots. It’s one-way traffic so far. James sneaks a couple of shots through Moorcroft’s guard, who is already looking a little weary. To his credit, Moorcroft keeps coming forward but can’t find a home for any of his shots. James had the better of the action once again.

EITHAN JAMES v JAMES MOORCROFT – ROUND 1: JAMES FINDS HIS RANGE IMMEDIATELY

Both men are straight on the offensive, trying to establish the jab. James is switching between orthodox and southpaw, which is making it difficult for Moorcroft. He slips a few right hands and lands a couple of straight lefts, which gives him a shot of confidence. He lets his hands go more towards the end of the round and lands some big shots. Definitely one round in the book for James.
