Liverpool and Everton charged for ‘confrontation’ as FA investigate objects thrown at Kevin De Bruyne

Liverpool and Everton have been charged by the Football Association for a “mass confrontation” and the governing body are also investigating a number of objects thrown at Kevin De Bruyne during Manchester City’s win at Arsenal.
Monday’s Merseyside derby, won 2-0 by Liverpool, saw the two Premier League sides clash in the 86th minute.

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford were both booked for a confrontation before the incident escalated further.

An FA statement said both sets of players had not “conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour”.

There is a February 20 deadline for the clubs to respond.

The FA will also investigate objects thrown at Man City midfielder De Bruyne during the 3-1 win over Arsenal on Wednesday night.

The Belgian playmaker was taken off late in the game and as he made his way around the pitch, objects were thrown in his direction, including a cup.

Match referee Anthony Taylor mentioned the incident in his match report, according to the BBC.

Arsenal have said they will examine CCTV footage and severely punish any of those who can be identified as responsible.

“This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” said an Arsenal spokesperson.
