Liverpool chasing star Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes – Paper Round
Liverpool could buy Guimaraes in installments
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Newcastle’s star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
Guimaraes has been one of Newcastle’s star players and played a pivotal role in helping to secure the club a place in the UEFA Champions League last season.
The outlet states: “Liverpool could sign Bruno Guimaraes for £32million per season for the next three years as the Reds plot a move for the Newcastle midfielder.
“The Brazil international is someone Liverpool are admirers of, after the Reds ‘made contact’ with Newcastle over a potential switch for Guimaraes back in May. However, Guimaraes stayed put at St James’ Park after they secured qualification for the Champions League before penning a new five-year deal in October.
“Newcastle’s current financial situation may swing Guimaraes’ future back into the balance, though. This is after the Magpies recorded reported losses of £73.4m earlier this week when announcing their latest financial results. There is a real possibility Eddie Howe’s side could be forced to sell one of their star assets – such as Guimaraes – in the summer in an attempt to balance their books.
“And according to AS, Guimaraes ‘agreed’ to a release clause in his contract worth £98m, which is payable in three instalments of £32m. The report added that Guimaraes is one of the players the Newcastle board have selected to help them ‘settle accounts’, while Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Chelsea have been noted as possible destinations should the Magpies part ways.”
Chelsea on verge of signing 16-year-old sensation
Chelsea have reportedly sent officials to Brazil to complete the signing of teenage sensation Estevao Willian, who could cost them a total of £65 million.
The 16-year-old made his debut for Palmeiras against Cruzeiro on the final day of the Serie A season as his side were crowned champions and also played a starring role as Brazil made the quarter-finals of the Under-17 World Cup.
“Estevao, who has been nicknamed Messinho, has also drawn interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona.
“According to Sport, though, Chelsea have now flown an executive to Sao Paulo to trigger Estevao’s release clause.
“The club are ready to finalise the deal and pay the player’s £52million exit clause.
“However, the deal could still rise to £65million, the report adds.
“Chelsea are in pole position to land Estevao after PSG withdrew from the race to sign the teenage winger. He would be unable to join the West London club until July 2025, though, due to his age.”
Liverpool identify replacement for Kelleher
Liverpool have “identified” Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a replacement for deputy goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, claims the Mail.
According to the report, The Reds are worried the 24-year-old will decide to leave the club in the summer.
Kelleher has made 32 appearances for Liverpool since being promoted to the first team in 2019, while Patterson, 23, has been an integral part of Sunderland’s success, making over 100 appearances for the club.
“Kelleher is under contract until 2026 but, Liverpool would be willing to sell the 24-year-old if their asking price of around £20million was met – meaning they would need a new No.2.
“Jurgen Klopp has identified Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a potential replacement for Kelleher, should he leave the club during the summer – according to reports.
“Patterson is just 23 years old but he’s already made over 100 appearances for Sunderland during his relatively short career and is being touted as one to watch for the future.
“Therefore, Liverpool want to get in there before the other clubs come knocking. Klopp views the youngster as the perfect back-up to their No.1 goalkeeper, Alisson Becker.
“It remains to be seen as to whether Kelleher will leave Liverpool. However, the Cork-born keeper s believed to want regular first-team football to increase his chances of playing internationally.
“Nevertheless, it would take a sensational to pries Kelleher out of Klopp’s hands.”
