Liverpool, Manchester City, Man Utd on red alert as Mason Mount contract talks with Chelsea stall – Paper Round

Mount is a wanted man

Mason Mount could be set for a shock Chelsea exit this summer due to his ongoing contract situation at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old is looking for a “significant increase” on his current deal, which is set to expire in 2024, but there has been “little progress” made between the two parties during negotiations. This has led to a number of Premier League giants registering their interest in signing Mount.

ESPN reveal: “The impasse has put several other clubs on alert with Liverpool, City and United all in the market for a midfielder this summer. Liverpool and City are pursuing a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham which could complicate any concerted effort to sign Mount as well, given the likely sums involved.

“Mount is not pushing to leave and talks are expected to continue over a new deal but Chelsea may eventually decide to cash in given he will only have one year left on his contract.

“Sources have also told ESPN that Juventus have shown some interest in Mount but the midfielder is said to be open to the idea of playing for another club in England despite a longstanding allegiance to Chelsea”

Real consider Dalot swoop

Real Madrid have earmarked Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot as a potential option to sign this summer. Los Blancos are keen to find a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal, who is 32 years old, and Dalot’s contract situation at Old Trafford means he could be available for a cut-price fee. The 23-year-old has just over one year remaining on his current contract and is yet to renew his deal.

Spanish media outlet AS report: “For Madrid, there would be two options if Dalot’s contract situation remains unresolved. The 14-time European champions could seek to sign him for a knockdown fee in the summer, using his soon-to-expire contract as a bargaining chip to reduce United’s asking price. Alternatively, Madrid could wait until 2024 to snap Dalot up as a free agent.

“Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti had identified Joao Cancelo as a potential signing at right-back, but the Manchester City player’s recent loan switch to Bayern Munich looks to have ended any prospect of the defender arriving at the Bernabeu.”

England’s next superstar?

England manager Gareth Southgate is reportedly considering the possibility of giving Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White his debut senior call-up next month for the Euro 2024 qualifiers. The Three Lions begin their road to Germany in March and Gibbs-White could be part of the squad which faces Italy and Ukraine.

The Mail report: “Morgan Gibbs-White is on England’s radar after Gareth Southgate’s assistant Steve Holland made a check on the Nottingham Forest star at the club’s training ground.

“Holland attended the Nigel Doughty Academy, just outside Nottingham, to watch Steve Cooper’s men put through their paces. Although Gibbs-White did not train, he is thought to have had a conversation with Holland.

“Cooper and Southgate developed a good relationship when they worked together at the FA, and Southgate knows how much the Forest boss admires Gibbs-White.”

Redknapp ready to return to management

Leeds United have faced a tough battle in their pursuit to find a replacement for Jesse Marsch, who parted ways with the Premier League club last week. West Bromwich Albion’s Carlos Corberan, Rayo Vallecano’s Andoni Iraola and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot have all reportedly rejected approaches to take the vacant role at Elland Road, but the Mirror report that one veteran of English football would be keen on taking the reins.

The Mirror reveal: “Harry Redknapp is willing to make a sensational return to management if Leeds ask him to come out of retirement.

“Leeds’ struggle to find a new boss has seen caretaker Michael Skubala been given the green light to remain in charge at Elland Road for upcoming fixtures against Everton and Southampton this month. But Leeds’ Under-21s head coach lacks experience and Redknapp is willing to step in to take the job until the end of the season.”
