Local Long Island GOP abandons support for flasher candidate

Long Island Republicans raced to distance themselves from Kevin Sabella Sr. after the GOP candidate for Babylon Town Council was exposed by The Post last week as an alleged serial flasher.

Sabella, 63, a longtime financial advisor and church volunteer, was accused by a van driver of repeatedly exposing himself as she drove by his home in Lindenhurst. Victoria Lombardi, 30, said Sabella stood in his doorway in his birthday suit “at least 10 times” over a two-month period.

Lombardi recorded a video of him in the act last month and shared the footage with The Post.

Local police said they are still investigating the matter and no arrests had been made.

“At this time the Babylon Republican committee will not support Mr. Sabella on his run,” Babylon GOP chairman Joseph Barone told The Post, adding the committee “has spoken to him about this incident, and after careful deliberation, we feel Mr. Sabella needs to take time to focus on his family and his personal life.”

The sentiments were echoed by Suffolk County GOP boss Jesse Garcia.

“I completely support the actions taken by the Babylon Town Republican Party Executive Committee to withdraw their support of Mr. Sabella. The County GOP in no way condones these inappropriate actions by any candidate,” Garcia said.

Both men had previously offered Sabella endorsements and headlined a May 31 fundraiser on his behalf.

“I understand the mistake I made, and want to apologize to anyone my actions may have affected,” Sabella told The Post last week. “I accept responsibility for my actions and have learned my lesson regarding privacy in my own home and also the vicious game that local Democrats will play when someone with credibility steps on their turf.”
