Loretta Lynn tribute, ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter,’ to air on CMT

Country music will honor the late legend Loretta Lynn with a tribute.

A memorial titled “Coal Miner’s Daughter: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Loretta Lynn” will air live on CMT Oct. 30.

Lynn, whose country music career spanned decades, died on Oct. 4 at the age of 90 at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

George Strait, Brandi Carlile, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town and Wynonna Judd are just a few of the country stars that will pay tribute to the icon. The event will be broadcasted at 7 p.m. from Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.

“We are truly honored to work closely alongside Loretta’s family to create a celebration of life fit for a true queen of country music, Loretta Lynn,” CMT’s senior VP of production, music & events Margaret Comeaux and senior VP music strategy and talent Leslie Fram said in a joint statement.

Lynn burst into the limelight for her 1971 track “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” A fictionalized drama of the same name, which was based on Lynn’s life, was released in 1980, with Sissy Spacek playing the singer. Spacek won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as Lynn.

CMT will also air the celebration of life on Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. — both commercial free.

The special will also be available to be streamed on Paramount+ in 2023.
