Luca Brecel on key reason why Ronnie O’Sullivan is top of snooker world – ‘They change lifestyle, but nothing happens’

In contrast, the world No. 1 Ronnie O’Sulllivan is devoted to keeping fit by running in his time away from the green baize, but Brecel isn’t sure there is a guaranteed blueprint for glory in preparing for matches.

“Stan has definitely got the talent, he did some great things today. I was impressed,” said Brecel after securing a meeting against Andy Hicks in the second round on Tuesday afternnon by winning the final two frames from 3-2 behind against world junior champion Moody, who fired a classy 121 in the fourth frame.

‘Wonderful stuff!’ – Moody, 17, hits sparkling century against Brecel

“If you are good enough you will make it, if you are not good enough, you will never make it.

“Sometimes I look at players and they change their diet or their lifestyle, but nothing happens.

“If Ronnie ate rubbish and sat on the couch all day, he would still win tournaments.”

Having being reunited with his trusy Crucible-winning stick, the world No. 2 is seeking more success with O’Sullivan only 5,000 points ahead of him in the provisional ranking list.

Despite not being overly keen on the constant travelling commitments, Brecel said: “I have had a good start to the season, I reached the final in Shanghai and played well in Germany.

“I have just put a new tip on my cue and I have new chalk, I am trying to improve now.”
