Luis Suarez: Former Liverpool and Barcelona forward joins Brazilian side Gremio on two-year contract
Former Liverpool and Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has joined Brazilian Serie A side Gremio on a free transfer.
Suarez has signed a two-year contract with Gremio in a deal that runs until the end of 2024.
The 35-year-old left his boyhood club Nacional in October after just three months having scored eight goals in 16 games, helping them win the Uruguayan championship.

Suarez wrote on Twitter: “Preparing for this beautiful challenge at Gremio, I’m excited to be there and enjoy it.”
The Brazilian club wrote on their Twitter page: “Let’s go, @LuisSuarez9! We are prepared to achieve great things together!”
It will be the fourth side that Suarez has signed for since leaving Liverpool in 2014 after enjoying a successful six-year period at Barcelona.
He made 283 appearances for the Catalans, scoring 195 goals, winning La Liga four times and the Champions League once before joining Atletico Madrid in 2020 where he also won a league title.
At Gremio – where he will wear the No.9 jersey – he will link up with former Liverpool team-mate Lucas Leiva.
It has been reported that Suarez turned down a move to clubs in the MLS and Saudi Arabia.
Gremio return to the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A next term, after being promoted from Serie B after the conclusion of the 2022 season.
