Luke Bryan defends ‘rude’ Katy Perry’s role on ‘American Idol’
Luke Bryan is done with the “Hot n Cold” treatment of Katy Perry.
The country singer, 46, rushed to the defense of the embattled “American Idol” judge during an interview at the Country Music Association Festival on Monday.
The “I Kissed a Girl” singer has been the subject of several social media rants and nasty comments about the judge’s provocative — and possibly “rude” — coaching methods
“Katy Perry’s been dealing with stuff like that her whole career,” said Bryan. “We all get it … I mean we’re judging kids that people at home fall in love with … We’re not gonna bat 1,000 as judges.”
“I think we get set up,” he continued. “As judges, you know, we kinda fall on the sword a lot of times. And get set up to where people can get very vocal on socials and stuff.”
According to the country singer, he believes that Perry, 38, Lionel Richie, 73, and himself do the best they can after when they sit down behind the “Idol” desk.
“Katy gets picked on for going out and trying to have fun making a TV show,” roared the “Kick the Dust Up” singer. “You can’t be so safe in the moment that you’re so homogenized, you can’t ever go for a joke. Or go for a fun moment.”
“Sometimes, you just gotta say stuff,” he added.
The fact that Perry does say something “makes me appreciate her even more,” Bryan added.
The Post reached out to Bryan and Perry for comment.
Bryan is not the only person to have come out in defense of the show’s “Dark Horse.”
Performer Oliver Steele, 25, defended Perry last month on Instagram by claiming the alleged teenage nightmare was “not a bully.”
“Here is what I know about @katyperry,” said the musician. “Katy is not a bully, nor does she shame people.”
“I remember being nervous at my audition, nervous during Hollywood week, hell even nervous throughout various points in the competition,” continued the former competitor. “Katy has an incredible ability to not just tell what emotional state you’re in, but to be able to tell what’s holding you back.”
Steele said that while he enjoyed working with both Richie and Bryan, it was Perry who was able to make him “Smile.”
According to Steele, Perry “challenged me to push myself, to take on challenges that made me uncomfortable.”
Both statements come weeks after the “E.T.” songstress claimed that the show’s producers “threw her under the bus” and intentionally edited footage to make her look like the “nasty” judge.
Perry woke up in infamy after she seemingly mom-shamed Sara Beth Liebe, 25, who quit the show after saying she wanted to spend more time with her three children.
The singer further annoyed fans when she was seemingly “dismissive” of a contestant when one of her favorite competitors was eliminated and then proceeded to wage “psychological warfare.”
Perry earned a slight reprieve from fans’ wrath when she was briefly replaced by Alanis Morissette.
Hoping that Morrissette would not be “the one that got away,” fans attempted to create a petition begging the “Jagged Little Pill” singer to stay permanently.
