Lying George Santos is now the treasurer of his own campaign

In a bizarre move, lying Rep. George Santos (R-NY) named himself treasurer of his campaign and affiliated committees on Friday, a week after being hit with fraud and other charges in a 13-count federal criminal indictment.

Santos’ self-appointment to the treasurer spot was revealed in a filing made with the Federal Election Commission late Friday afternoon.

He becomes the fourth named treasurer of his campaign and committees since January.

The move signals Santos’ growing isolation and his possible desperation to raise funds — as campaigns must have a treasurer in place to take donations and spend money.

Santos, 34, replaces a mysterious individual identified as Andrew Olson as the last treasurer of his campaign.

Olson is not listed on federal or state records as having served as treasurer of any other federal committee or political committee operating in New York, according to CNN.

The address listed by the Santos campaign as Olson’s is the same one in Elmhurst, New York, where the representative’s sister, Tiffany Santos, lived before being evicted for failing to pay nearly $40,000 in rent payments. Her dispute with her landlord was reportedly settled in court in February.

Earlier this month, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a watchdog group, filed a complaint with FEC questioning Olson’s existence.

An email listed as Olson’s on Santos’ FEC filing did respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Santos’ longtime treasurer, Nancy Marks, resigned from the Long Island Republican’s campaign in January as questions mounted over a slew of $199.99 expenses listed on the congressman’s campaign finance disclosures – just below the legal limit for retaining receipts – and the origin of a $705,000 personal loan that Santos made to his own campaign.

After Marks’ resignation, Wisconsin-based consultant Thomas Datwyler was named treasurer of the Santos campaign on FEC forms despite never agreeing to take on the job, according to his lawyer.

A lawyer for Datwyler claimed on Jan. 25 that Santos’ team had listed him as treasurer without his authorization.

The sketchy treasurer switch prompted the FEC to send a letter warning the campaign that it could face legal jeopardy if it failed to provide the regulator with accurate information about the change.

The Washington Post reported on Friday that Dickinson Wright – the law firm assisting Santos with FEC related matters and the House Ethics Committee investigation into him – dropped him as a client.

His communications director also resigned from his office earlier this week.

Santos has argued in the past that he is not responsible for handling any of his campaign paperwork.

“I don’t touch any of my FEC stuff,” Santos told CNN in January.
