Malibu Barbie Cafe pop-up coming to New York City
Come on Barbie, let’s go brunch!
The new Malibu Barbie Cafe transports New Yorkers from the Seaport to a girly West Coast beach bungalow where there are pink palm trees, multiple Instagram backgrounds and Madonna’s “Material Girl” blasting on the speakers.
“Every detail has been thoughtfully designed to celebrate the iconic Barbie style, with nostalgic details fans will love,” Julie Freeland, senior director of location-based entertainment at toymaker Mattel, told The Post.
Customers are welcomed into the spot by the original Malibu Barbie — first released in 1971 — and her friends, who are on display by the front door.
Guests of the two-story, 120-seat restaurant can build a sandcastle in a real sandpit, step into the life-sized Malibu Barbie box for a Instagram grid-worthy shot or jump on a surfboard and pretend to ride the waves.
To create the cafe, which opens Wednesday and will run through September 15, Mattel partnered with Bucket Listers, an event company known for similar pop-ups including the Golden Girls cafe.
The menu comes courtesy of Master Chef semifinalist Becky Brown, who drew on her experience as a photographer and mother to create a family-friendly menu.
“We want to make sure that this stuff is approachable and fun for everyone,” Brown told The Post.
The adult menu offers the Live Your Dream grilled cheese with toasted sourdough, fig jam, gouda and Gruyère and a Golden Coast CALI-flower bowl with curry spiced cauliflower, arugula, pickled onions, quinoa and tahini sauce.
The kids menu has simpler options such as the Stay Groovy grilled cheese with American cheese and gouda and the Pacific Paradise Rainbow pancakes served with honey butter, maple syrup and whipped cream.
Several menu items are a vibrant pink that’s perfectly on theme.
The Good Vibes beets hummus is a refreshing mix of beet and coconut puree and hummus topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, fresh mints, basil, lemon, fennel, pollen, hemp seeds and flowers.
Barbie girls or boys who are old enough to partake can sip on creative cocktails including the Think Pink Margarita, the French “71” (in honor of the year that Malibu Barbie was first released), and the Beach Mojito, which has edible iridescent pink glitter.
For those looking for a non-alcoholic beverage, all the cocktails can be made into mocktails.
The menu also has strawberry, dreamsicle, and cream soda floats that are served in one of Barbie’s many convertibles.
Reservations are requred, with ticket prices ranging from $22 to $30 for kids and $39 to $49 for adults depending on the time.
Each ticket includes a 90-minute table reservation and choice of entree and side item. Drinks, desserts and shareable items are extra and range from $9 to $19.
Barbie merch, including a custom Malibu Barbie Cafe pink T-shirt with a 70s-style camper van illustration, will also be on offer.
It will be the perfect place for Barbie fans to brunch and Instagram as they await the “Barbie” movie, which hits theaters July 21 and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
“We are always looking for exciting, new ways to bring the Barbie experience to life,” said Freedland.
