Man dies from asthma attack on flight after dropping inhaler

A British man died earlier this week after he allegedly dropped his inhaler during an asthma attack less than an hour before his flight landed in New York earlier this week.

Shimoin Brauer, 25, of London, fell unconscious on Monday morning when he panicked and his inhaler slipped from his fingers about 45 minutes before his flight was set to land in New York, Jewish News reported.

The crew initially attempted to give him oxygen because they were unaware his airways had closed due to an asthma attack, the outlet said, citing a member of Brauer’s Orthodox Jewish community in Stamford Hill.

The crew also attempted CPR, but were tragically unable to save the passenger’s life.

Brauer was traveling to the US to volunteer at a summer camp, Jewish News said.

An investigation into the incident is reportedly ongoing.

Shimoin Brauer, 25, died on Monday.

About 10 people in the US die from asthma every day, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

The long-term condition, which causes swelling of the airways, can be easily triggered by common allergens like dust and pet dander.
