Man killed by police after hours-long manhunt for shooting ex-girlfriend in Hawaii

A man shot his ex-girlified in Hawaii on Monday morning, then fled from cops for hours before he was killed in a police shootout.

Sidney Tafokitau’s crime spree began on the Moanalua Freeway, where he chased down his 39-year-old ex while driving in a white car that had no license plate, she told police, according to Island News.

He then shot her multiple times while she was inside the car, causing her to crash into a highway barrier, the report said.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services found the woman with multiple injuries and took her to the hospital in serious condition, Island News reported.

Hours later, Tafokitau was spotted by a plainclothes officer in Kalihi, where he fired at an officer’s unmarked car that was by a high school.

He evaded arrest and took off on Likelike Highway, where he stole a vehicle at gunpoint. Many reported seeing the vehicle in Kahuku and North Shore.

Police located him in Kapahulu around 3:30 p.m. and the shootout began near the University of Hawaii’s main campus.

Tafokitau was killed in the shootout, which also left two plainclothes officers wounded.

A fourth man was injured by a police vehicle, police said, They are trying to determine if he was involved.

Tafokitau was also wanted by police for shooting at a group of men on Rose Street in Kalihi on Dec. 16, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

He got into a verbal argument with the group before shooting at them, striking one and using a knife to harm another.
