Man scales Hollywood’s TV tower, waves ‘Free Billie Eilish’ sign
A man shut down Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard for over three hours after he scaled a TV tower while clutching a “Free Billie Eilish” sign on Tuesday.
The man, who has not been identified, climbed the 162-foot tower of California news station KTLA and played his guitar while onlookers watched from below, the outlet reported.
While he only made it 30 feet up the tower, the musical “protester” was eventually brought down and subsequently arrested by police just after midnight (PST).
Social media footage showed the Los Angeles Fire Department’s large inflatable airbag placed below the tower in an effort to bring the man down safely.
Officials have referred to the man as a “protestor,” according to the outlet, however, it is unclear what he was protesting.
The man also held a white sheet with black lettering that read, “MK ultra sex slaves donald marshall clones.”
The ordeal saw traffic around the tower come to a standstill, with police blocking off roads surrounding the TV tower.
Power to the tower was also shut off as officials pleaded with the man to come down.
The man was arrested on trespassing charges, according to CBS 8 producer Malik Earnest.
Since the ordeal, “Free Billie Eilish” began trending on Twitter, however, some fans were left confused by the man’s message regarding the 21-year-old “Bad Guy” singer.
The 7-time Grammy winner, who appeared on the Late Late Show with James Corden earlier in the day, is not currently in any legal trouble and has not addressed the bizarre incident.
“Free Billie Eilish, she ain’t do nothing,” one confused fan tweeted.
Another wrote, “This free Billie Eilish thing is the most random thing ever.”
“Billie Eilish, sleeping peacefully as ‘FREE BILLIE EILISH’ trends, not knowing she needs to be set free,” a third added.
The Post has reached out to LAPD, LAFD, and reps for Eilish for comment.
