Man sentenced to 10 years for teen Katie Golden’s fatal overdose

A Florida drug dealer who sold heroin to a teen girl who died from an overdose has accepted a plea deal that will send him to prison for a decade, according to reports.

Plant High School student Katie Golden, 17, took the drugs at the home of her boyfriend, Titan Goodson, in April 2017.

Goodson, who also used the heroin that day, failed to call police for several hours after Golden suddenly became unresponsive.

He eventually told his grandfather, who called 911.

Investigators later learned that Garland Layton had sold the drugs to the pair and hit him with first-degree murder charges before accepting a plea deal this week.

Goodson was initially charged with manslaughter for failing to call for help, but he pleaded the rap down after agreeing to testify against Layton if the case went to trial.

He served a year behind bars and is now on 10 years’ probation.

“They have put two bad guys in jail for the death of our daughter, so we are pleased,” said Golden’s heartbroken father, Cliff Golden, according to Fox 13. “It is justice for Katie.”

Layton’s prosecution was initiated by former Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren, who was suspended by Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this month.

DeSantis said he removed him for lax law enforcement and refusing to apply any future restrictions on gender reassignment surgeries for minors and abortion.

“I made it my mission to deliver justice, and I knew all that fighting was worth it when I spoke with Katie’s family after the conviction was finalized last week,” Warren said in a statement, according to Fox 13.

Chrystal Gayle Post pleaded guilty to the rap in April after selling drugs to a woman who died from an OD. She is serving a 10-year sentence.
