Man Utd miss out on David de Gea replacement with no Andre Onana deal done – Paper Round

Man Utd approach goalkeeping crisis

Manchester United will miss out on Bart Verbruggen, a potential replacement for David de Gea, according to the Mirror.

“Manchester United have a growing problem in the goalkeeping department after missing out on one of their summer transfer targets,” the report claims.

“Andre Onana, David Raya, Diogo Costa and Bart Verbruggen have all been monitored by United’s recruitment team. But one of those options is now on the verge of disappearing, with Verbruggen set to join Brighton from Anderlecht.

“According to the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is a fan of Netherlands international Verbruggen. But Sussex Live reports that the 20-year-old is now poised to join Brighton on a £17m transfer.”

Zaha linked with Champions League clubs

Wilfried Zaha has a decision to make. He is now out of contract at Crystal Palace and has to choose between Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Lazio and Saudi clubs.

The Sun gives an update, revealing: “WILFRIED ZAHA has sent Crystal Palace supporters into meltdown with a cryptic social media post.

“The winger’s contract is set to expire TOMORROW, meaning he will become a free agent on Saturday unless he signs a last-minute extension.

“He has also received offers from several other clubs.

“Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid have expressed an interest in signing the winger on a free transfer.

“Lazio have also approached him to discuss the possibility of a move.

“In addition to those European sides, several Saudi Super League clubs have considered a swoop for Zaha.”

Arsenal agree Timber deal

Arsenal have come to an agreement with Ajax over the transfer of young defender Jurrien Timber, as they attempt to improve upon last season’s title challenge.

The Daily Mail writes: “Arsenal and Ajax have verbally agreed on a fee of £36.5million rising to £40.5m for Jurrien Timber.

“Mikel Arteta’s side made an improved offer for the highly-rated Dutch defender on Monday, after their initial £30m bid was rebuffed last week.

“Ajax were thought to value their academy product at £50m, but the 22-year-old’s desire to move meant both clubs were keen to come to an agreement. “

De Gea future in limbo

David de Gea is no clearer on his future at Old Trafford than he was at the end of the season, and it appears that the club are not sure either.

The Telegraph explains the situation.

The paper reports: “It could be that he signs and stays and stays as No 1 – but only if a deal for Onana is not agreed – or even accepts he is back-up to the Cameroonian. Or that he is No 1 and Dean Henderson, on loan to Nottingham Forest last season and still yet to recover from a thigh problem, is the back-up. Or Henderson is sold to part-finance the Onana transfer. Or Henderson accepts being No 2 to De Gea or Onana. Or, even, that Henderson is No 1 (which seems the least likely outcome).

“All these scenarios are being played out by manager Erik ten Hag who is facing a key decision on who his goalkeeper will be as part of a huge multi-year re-build of the United squad.

“What is interesting is that not so long ago Ten Hag did not feel that was going to be one of his major issues this summer. But the fact that talks are being held over Onana, with Inter demanding €50 million (£43 million) plus add-ons, and the fact he played under Ten Hag at Ajax, surely shows where United’s preference lies.”
