Manchester United join Liverpool and Newcastle in race for Mason Mount after agent change – Paper Round

United join race for Mount

Manchester United have entered the battle to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. The 24-year-old England international has engaged new agents as he enters the last 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge, with the Daily Mail suggesting that a move from London now looks likely.

The paper writes: “Mason Mount has appointed a new agent, Neil Fewings from Wasserman Media Group, to manage a potential transfer from Chelsea – the strongest indication yet that he is set to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

“The England midfielder has been in a deadlock with Chelsea all season over the terms of a new contract and there appears little sign of a resolution as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his deal, with the club insisting they have made their final offer.

“Mount has been looked after by dad Tony for the last 18 months since leaving his previous management company, Stellar Football.

“The pair have sought more specialist assistance to negotiate with other clubs.

“Manchester United have joined Liverpool and Newcastle in pursuing Mount so the change of approach may already be paying off.”

Real Madrid turn to Lukaku

Chelsea’s striker Romelu Lukaku is on loan at Inter Milan but has failed to come close to the heights of his previous season, and is failing to maintain his fitness or his goalscoring record.

There is no deal in place for Inter to turn the deal into a permanent one, and The Sun believes that Chelsea are not interested in keeping the Belgian international next season.

“The 29-year-old Belgian is on loan from the Blues at Inter Milan following an unsuccessful return to Stamford Bridge last season,” the report states.

“However, having struggled with injury and form, the Italians have already insisted he WILL NOT be staying beyond the end of the season.

“Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta said: ‘He will return to Chelsea as it’s a straight loan, it’s part of the deal — then we will see.

“‘Lukaku is not in good condition yet, we are still waiting to see the real Romelu as we saw in the past.’”

“That has thrown the striker’s future into doubt, with Chelsea wanting to cut their losses following his £97.5million transfer in August 2021.

“And Real Madrid are set to take advantage of this situation by launching an offer for Romelu Lukaku.”

Hodgson could return to Palace

Veteran manager Roy Hodgson had appeared to retire from football when he left Crystal Palace but speculation is mounting that he could be tempted back for a brief spell back at Selhurst Park in order to steady the ship following the sacking of Patrick Vieira.

“Roy Hodgson has emerged as a surprise contender to replace Patrick Vieira, who was sacked by Crystal Palace on Friday after the club’s board concluded he could not reverse their alarming slide towards relegation,” the Telegraph claims.

“Vieira has endured a miserable 2023 as Palace’s head coach and is the ninth Premier League managerial casualty of the season.

“Vieira was dismissed on Friday morning as he travelled to the club’s training ground, following talks between the Palace ownership the previous day.”

United face competition for Kane

As well as Romelu Lukaku, there are reports that Real Madrid are interested in Harry Kane, who appears set to leave Spurs in the summer after another year without a trophy.

Manchester United need a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kane is said to be one of the priority signings, but Real are also looking for someone to step in with Karim Benzema’s future unclear.

The Mirror states: “The Red Devils have long been linked with the England captain as Erik ten Hag attempts to add a new striker to his squad. It has been suggested that Kane is seen as an ideal option given his Premier League experience, whilst Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has also been considered.

“Spanish giants Real Madrid are ‘monitoring developments’ over his future as they too aim to add to their strike force.

“Karim Benzema is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal, whilst a revised move for Kylian Mbappe remains a possibility. Kane is admired at the Bernabeu though and a move has already been discussed.”
