Marco Odermatt adds another super-G win as he closes on record men’s overall points haul at Soldeu
Marco Odermatt won the super-G at the World Cup Finals in Soldeu, edging him closer to a record overall points haul.
Odermatt beat Austria’s Marco Schwarz into second and Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde into third.
The 25-year-old – winner of the overall, the super-G and the giant slalom titles this season – is now just 58 short of Austrian Hermann Maier’s all-time overall men’s record of 2,000 points from the 1999-2000 season. He can break the record with a top-three finish in Saturday’s giant slalom.

The highest overall points record belongs to Tina Maze, who claimed 2,414 points in 2013.
The Swiss superstar has been imperious this season in the super-G and made it five wins from eight in the discipline, firing himself down the mountain in a time of 1:23.91 in Soldeu.
Schwarz, who claimed his first super-G podium, raced into an early lead as a time of1:24.20 sent him top of the leaderboard.
The time was enough to keep Kilde at bay as the Norwegian could only manage to finish 0.42 seconds slower – which was good enough for second.
He soon found himself nudged down to third following Odermatt’s blistering run, though.
For Odermatt, all that remains from what has been a glittering campaign is a chance to break the record for most points in a single World Cup season.
Should he pass on that opportunity, he could have another chance in the slalom on Sunday but that would be his first World Cup level race in that discipline were he to attempt it.
