Margot Robbie explains awkward sex joke in ‘Barbie’ movie

You can brush Barbie’s hair and undress her everywhere — but then what?

Margot Robbie, clad in Barbie’s signature pink, graced the latest cover of Vogue in which she spoke about her highly anticipated role in “Barbie,” based on the Mattel dolls.

The 32-year-old Aussie actress and writer-director Greta Gerwig gave some insight into the sexual dynamics — and lack thereof — between Barbie and Ken in the upcoming comedy.

In one scene, Robbie’s blond-haired beauty converses with her Ken (Ryan Gosling) in front of her Dreamhouse.

“I thought I might stay over tonight,” Ken said.

“Why?” Barbie asked.

“Because we’re girlfriend and boyfriend,” Ken replied.

“To do what?” she asked, coyly, at which her plastic beau pondered, “I’m actually not sure.”

Robbie donned a bright satin Versace dress and glittering pink Chopard Haute Joaillerie earrings for the cover of Vogue magazine.

According to the “Little Women” filmmaker, 39, and the “Wolf of Wall Street” alum, the scene touches upon the fact that both Barbie and Ken’s anatomies are somewhat indecipherable.

“You feel that there’s something there, which is part of the allure,” Gerwig explained, referring to the nondescript bulge between Ken’s legs as well as Barbie’s nipple-less breasts. “It’s unclear how this all kinda works. But it’s not without intrigue.”

Robbie dove further into Barbie’s ostensibly sexless persona and how she played it.

“I’m like, ‘OK, she’s a doll. She’s a plastic doll. She doesn’t have organs,’ ” she said, recalling her thoughts aloud. “If she doesn’t have organs, she doesn’t have reproductive organs.”

“If she doesn’t have reproductive organs, would she even feel sexual desire? No, I don’t think she could.

“She is sexualized. But she should never be sexy,” Robbie continued. “People can project sex onto her. Yes, she can wear a short skirt, but because it’s fun and pink. Not because she wanted you to see her butt.”

While the fantastically effervescent previews have had fans going wild, some young watchers said they were unhappy with Gosling being the choice to play Ken.

Critics called “The Notebook” star, 42, “too old” to embody the plastic man, with one person writing on Twitter that “his wrinkles are taking me out of the experience.”

“I like Ryan Gosling but idk [I don’t know] why he looks a little too old and dry. Not sure if it’s because of the hair or tan but he needed some moisturizer,” one user complained.

“Ryan Gosling is too ugly and too old to be playing Ken, they should’ve casted henry cavill or chris evans bye,” someone wrote
