Mark Hamill reacts to video of him mobbed by ‘Star Wars’ fans
There is a Dark Side of fame.
A video of “Star Wars” legend Mark Hamill being swarmed by fans went viral on Twitter Monday, forcing the Hollywood star to embrace the not-so-glamorous side of fame.
In the nearly 40-second clip — which has gained 4.8 million views — Hamill is seen sitting in the backseat of a black SUV following his speech at Carrie Fisher’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony while fans jostle around the car pushing various things in front of the actor.
Several of the 71-year-old actor’s admirers can be heard pleading with the beloved icon to prioritize their items over others.
Hamill, who remained calm throughout the mob and did his best to sign everyone’s memorabilia, was jabbed in the neck accidentally by a fan and let out an audible groan before rolling up his window and driving off.
The actor, who is known on Twitter for his uplifting messages, practical jokes and witty replies, retweeted the video captioning it “#TheDownsideOfCelebrity.”
Twitter user @skywalkuzzy, who initially posted the video, also slammed fans for their rude behavior.
“I am beside myself. Inconsolably sickened. THIS IS NOT HOW TO TREAT YOUR HERO’S,” read the tweet. “Everyone in this video owes @MarkHamill a written f–king apology for their greed and selfishness.”
“How he manages to remain a kind soul after decades of this behavior toward him is beyond me.”
The Post reached out to Hamill for comment.
Several other Twitter users embraced the dark side over the rude treatment of “The Batman” star.
“These aren’t fans, these are people willing to get signed s–t so they can sell it,” slammed one angry person.
“Absolute abhorrent behavior. Utter selfishness,” said another. “I wouldn’t blame him if he never did a fan event or signed something ever again.”
“Mark Hamill didn’t have to come back for the sequels, ‘The Mandalorian,’ or anything ‘Star Wars’ related,” chastised a third user. “He jokes, he memes, he sends out positive messages and birthday wishes.”
“He does this all because he cares & he’s kind. The least we can be is kind back. Don’t treat him like this,” continued the user.
