Mark Sheehan, guitarist of The Script, dead at 46

Mark Sheehan, the co-founder and guitarist of the Script, has died following a brief illness. The Irish musician was 46.

Sheehan’s family announced his passing in a tweet from the band’s account on Friday, writing: “Much loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”

He is survived by his wife, Reena Sheehan, and their three children.

The Script was founded in Dublin in 2001. The alternative rock group is known for their songs like “Breakeven,” “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” “For the First Time” and “Hall of Fame” featuring Will.i.am.

They released their latest album “Sunsets & Full Moons” in 2019 and their greatest hits album “Tales from the Script” in 2021.

The Script is set to open for Pink during the UK shows of her “Summer Carnival Tour” in June.

Sheehan and the Script’s lead singer Danny O’Donoghue, 42, had been best friends since their youth and were formerly in the boy bad Mytown, formed in 1996.

“RIP Mark” quickly trended on Twitter following the news as celebs and fans alike mourned the loss.

“So sorry to hear the passing of Mark Sheehan! We had the great fortune of getting to spend time in his company over the years and was always such a lovely man! Deepest condolences to his family and his @thescript brothers,” the band Kodaline wrote.

“I’m lost for words !! He will be missed and won’t be forgotten,” one fan said.

“This leaves me absolutely speechless and paralyzed. Thanks for the good times. RIP,” another said. “My condolences to friends & family and @TheScript_Danny & @glenofthepower Thinking of you.”
